Troops of 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army were attacked by some yet to be identified assailants around Swali market in Yenaogoa, Bayelsa state.
The troops were on a routine patrol when the attack occurred. About seven of the assailants began to shoot sporadically at the soldiers and tried to cart away a soldier’s rifle. However, one of them was quickly neutralized, prompting others to take to their heels. In the statement released by The Nigerian Army, the assailants are still being tracked. Other parts of the statement explained that “there are allegations that these criminals have been robbing people around Swali market for some time now. Unfortunately, luck ran out of them when troops closed in on them and recovered the following’:

One locally made pistol.
b.Two locally made 9mm ammunition.
c. One Itel mobile phone and,
d. The sum of Eight Thousand Three Hundred and Fifty Naira Only.
The Brigade wishes to reassure the good people of Bayelsa and environs of the safety of their lives and property. Also, criminal elements brandishing arms are advised to turn them in to security agencies or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.
