Following a come back from a knee injury, Arsenal attacking midfielder, Abou Diaby might be converted to play in the defensive midfield position as revealed by the club’s manager Arsene Wenger.
Diaby, after a long 18 months break, started for Arsenal as they lost to Southampton in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old played for 67 minutes on Tuesday’s game.
Arsene Wenger who was delighted with Diaby’s Tuesday’s performance revealed plans to convert the Frenchman.
Wenger said: “I try to transform it [Diaby to be more defensive], yes because I feel because he was injured for a long time and he has the physical potential to win the challenges, to face the game will be easier for him than to play with his back to goal with the injuries he had.
“I tried to develop him in a deeper role, I think he can do it. He can be very interesting because he has all the attributes to do it.
“After, he must love it as well because he’s more of an offensive- minded player.”
