Most Arsenal fans who watched defender Calum Chambers stretched off the pitch in the loss to Chelsea feared the worst and rightfully so, a successful surgery later and we now have confirmation that the defender will be out for up to nine months.
With the Gunners lacking greatly in defence, already two fullbacks Hector Belerin and Kieran Tierney still out till match they are short of options at the back and re-enforcement is urgently required.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta previously said the injury was “significant”.
Arsenal are in the market for more defenders as new manager Mikel Arteta prioritize strengthen his defence. They’ve been in contact with a couple of names from France and Germany but no deal or bids have been announced.
Meanwhile Mikel Arteta spoke about former club captain Granit Xhaka with optimism that the Swiss can achieve great things should he opt to stay at the Emirates.
“I wanted his team-mates to get his back and help him to change his mind because we need him,” Arteta said.
“I believe that if we were able to do that the fans would respond in a positive way.
“I’ve seen him act every day, how he trains, how he lives his profession and the quality of the player. He could be a really important player for the club.”
We wish Chambers a speedy recovery and hope that Xhaka stays at the club as we would love to see more of the kind of performance we saw from him against Manchester United. Xhaka delivered one of his best Arsenal performance in the victory over Manchester United.
