Arsenal and Nigerian legend Nwankwo Kanu has weighed in on the Mesut Ozil debating stating that the playmaker either be accepted or sold
There has been a lot of speculation over the midfielder especially due to his retirement from the German national team due to alleged racism
The German did himself no favours as he did not have a good game against Manchester City on the opening matchweek of the Premier League which brought to the fore his defensive work rate or lack of it.
Kanu is of the opinion that asking Ozil to defend is not a good idea and that Arsenal either find a way to accommodate his lack of defensive work or sell him.
Speaking to the Sun, Kanu said: “Every player is different. What you need is his strengths, not his weaknesses. He can work on his weaknesses but you can’t change him.

“Either you accept him or you let him go. You don’t want Maradona or Messi to go back and defend, you want them to go and do what they know how to do.
“If it’s a style of play, the coach has to accommodate that and make room for Mesut to play in that manner. I don’t know why people are still complaining a lot about him.”
Kanu himself had a languid style in his playing days and was capable of the incredible on his day
While the former Nigerian striker doesn’t believe Ozil can be changed, he did concede that the playmaker could give more to the team at times.
He added: “The only thing I can say is that sometimes he’s not into it.
“But you can never change him.”
Arsenal’s next game is against Chelsea, a team who Kanu himself got an incredible hat-trick against and it is certain that he’ll be supporting the Red half of London when the time comes.
