Arsene Wenger lead Arsenal to Villa Park to face Aston Villa and ended up claiming all three points with a 3-0 victory over the Villans, their first defeat in 5 matches.
The Gunners had suffered a 2 – 0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Transfer deadline day signing Danny Welbeck ,who needed to shut down critics, got a goal and an assist and Mesut Ozil scored his first away goal for the team.
The first few minutes into the game was hot for Arsenal as attempts kept looping for Aston Villa. More attempts kept coming through from both sides but none yielded a goal until the 32nd minute when Mesut Ozil fired a low shot from the 18 yard box past goal keeper Brad Guzan (Aston Villa).
The German international was assisted by Danny Welbeck. He joined the party two minutes later, he found the back of the net with a right footed shot from close range supplied by Ozil. Catastrophe hit Villa a minute later when Aly Cissokho scored an own goal shortly after Santiago Cazorla’s shot was stopped.
Arsenal held on to the 3 goal lead although Aston Villa tried their best to get back into the game, the first half ended shortly after Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) missed a shot from outside box.
The second half got a lot tougher for the Gunners as Aston Villa piled on the pressure, their chances left their defense exposed which ,in turn, presented opportunities for Mesut Ozil, Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey but they were unable to converted.
Jack Wilshere came on in the 78 minute to replace Ramsey who was booked (yellow card ) for a bad foul, the 22-year old didn’t impress much and was later booked (yellow card) in the 84th minute.
