With a total worth of €15.5 billion, Arsenal co-owner Alisher Usmanov has been named as the wealthiest man in Britain by a British based tabloid.
Alisher Usmanov, a russian business magnate, who owns nearly 30 per cent of the north London club, now occupies a prestigious post formerly held by QPR stakeholder Lakshmi Mittal at the top of the list.
Usmanov has had a stake in the Gunners since 2007 and has repeatedly criticised the team’s ambition, particularly under majority shareholder Stan Kroenke.
Usmanov’s business interests ranges from iron ore to internet and mobile phone companies.
Currently, Mittal has dropped down to fourth position after eight consecutive years at the top of the rankings, though is still worth €11.7bn.
One place behind him is Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, whose personal riches are listed as a total of €10.9bn.
For those who think soccer isn’t a wise investment better have a rethink.
