The war on insurgency in the Northeast continues to gather momentum as the Nigerian Army on Tuesday destroyed Boko Haram camps located around Sambisa and Alargano forest.

This was contained in a Wednesday statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, who also stated that the troops of the 81 Battalion and 251 Task Force Battalion patrol team cleared insurgents’ camps located at Komala, Dole, Kumshi and Moadori which lie on the fringes of the Alargano forest.

The statement confirmed that troops killed two Boko Haram terrorists and captured two notorious insurgents identified as Mustapha Busuru, 50, and Usman Abubakar, 56, at Dole village.

Usman also said that terrorist flags hoisted along routes in the village were confiscated and destroyed.

Among items recovered from the insurgents were: 2 Toyota pick-up vans, 40 motorcycles, Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs), stockpile of food stuff and fuel dump.

He added that the patrol team equally recovered horses and donkeys used for transportation by the terrorists.

Furthermore, the statement revealed that troops of the 143 Battalion responded to a distress call about an attack on Kuda village along Butuku road, but could not achieve much as the terrorists had fled after setting the village on fire, leading to an 85-year-old wman being burnt to death.

In the same vein, the escaped terrorists attempted to cross through Magar Bridge, having regrouped, but they were accosted by elements of the Battalion who killed two of the insurgents and wounded several others in the process.

The statement added: “Sadly, 3 soldiers and 4 locals sustained injuries, while the troops recovered 1 Toyota Buffalo vehicle mounted with an Anti-Aircraft Gun with registration number 081375, one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with registration number 132042, a loaded G3 rifle magazine and 30 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunitions link.”
