A private in the Nigerian Army, Azunna Maduabuchi shot dead his commanding officer Lt. Babakaka Ngorgi in Bama local government area of Borno State.
The private fired eight shots into the commanding officer of the 202 Tank Battallion after a successful operation against Boko Haram Terrorists, killing him on the spot.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Nigerian Army said the Private went berserk and shot his superior while the latter was on a phone call in front of the Battallion command post.
The culprit was arrested immediately and is currently undergoing interrogation.
Acting Director, Army public relations, Sagir Musa said in a statement;
“A trooper of the Nigerian Army serving in 202 Battalion of 21 Special Armoured Brigade Bama, Borno State, went beserk at about 1030 hours on the 29th of July 2020 and fired at an officer (a Subaltern) which led to his death.
“The incident happened when the soldier approached the officer who was standing infront of the Unit’s Headquarters making a phone call. The soldier has been arrested, is in custody undergoing investigation. General situation in the unit is calm.”
He said further that the remains of the Lieutenant has been evacuated to 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital.
“Investigation into the case has since been instituted to determine the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
“The family of the deceased has already been contacted.
The Nigerian Army sympathizes and condoles with the family at this trying moment, and pray to the Almighty God to repose the soul of the departed and grant his family and other loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
The incident has come on the heels of a warning to soldiers against mutiny by the military high Command.
The deceased commander was said to have gotten married in December, 2019 and was speaking to his wife before he was gunned down.
