Army competition aims at improving leadership traits of officers – GOC

The 2 Division of the Nigerian Army on Monday in Benin commenced the Force Annual Corporal and Below Competition.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Maj.-Gen Chukwunudum Abraham, while declaring the competition open, said it was expected to last for three days.

He added that it was aimed at improving leadership traits of officers
and help to improve the organisational abilities of the officer.

“It is also to promote espirit de corps among officers as well as engender comradeship and bonding,” he said.

 

 

He sued for keen and fair competition and advised that participants should ensure that the purpose of the competition was achieved.

He said the competition was in pursuit of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Tukur Buratai’s commitment to ensure that officers were always fit and in shape physically and mentally to carry out their responsibilities.

He also said it would help strengthen them for contemporary challenges, adding that the COAS was committed to improving the welfare of officers.

He commended the Commander of the 4 Brigade, Benin, Brig.-Gen Ibrahim Garba for hosting the competition.

 

 

He also commended officers from the division who had done it proud in earlier competitions.
He said there would be reward for hard work through promotions for participants who were due.
Acting Chief of Staff, 4 Brigade, Lt.- Col Haruna Audu said the brigade was committed to the actualisation of the aims and objectives of the competition.
He assurced of the Brigade’s loyalty to the cause of the COAS.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the 2 Division comprises of six states of Edo, Ekiti, Kogi, Ogun, Ondo and Oyo.
NAN also reports that the officers are expected to compete in weapon handling, combat swimming, map reading, physical fitness, synchronisation and range classification/obstacle crossing. (NAN)
