Armed robbers have killed 12 people in a failed bid to rob two banks in Edo State. The Incident Occurred at Igarra the headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The armed robbers who operated in a manner similar to the style used by the Offa Bank Robbers invaded the town and attacked the police station where they shot and killed the only policeman on duty alongside two detainees they found in the cells and finally set ablaze the Police Toyota Hilux Van on the premises.
They then proceeded to attack the banks and killed at least four persons in the process of trying to gain entry to the banks’ vaults which they couldn’t breach eventually.
While confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, said the police had very little information about the armed robbers attack and so was not able to give an accurate account at the moment.
He however confirmed that at least four other persons were reportedly killed at the banks when the armed robbers could not gain access to the vaults of the banks.

Recall that in the Offa Armed Robbery incident in which the Senate President Bukola Saraki has been indicted was carried out in the same manner earlier in the year.
In that incident which occurred earlier in the year at Offa Town in Kwara State, the armed robbers attacked the police station and killed all the policemen on sight before proceeding to attack five banks while shooting sporadically in the air and killing everyone on sight; 38 people died in that incident.
This style of armed attack is also employed by Boko haram terrorists in the North-east. They invade the security outposts first before invading the town itself.
