Armed men, on Wednesday, killed two personnel of the Nigerian Navy during an attack on a military checkpoint in the Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A source disclosed that the naval officers were attacked around 7pm while resuming their duty at the checkpoint in Okene.
The source explained that the gunmen were seven in number.
The gunmen, the source said, arrived the scene and started shooting sporadically at the naval personnel on duty.
After exhausting a couple of rounds on the navy men, the assailants then sped off and escaped.

Abdulmumin Muhammad, The Chairman of the local government council confirmed the incident in a statement.
According to the statement issued by the office of the Special Adviser to the Chairman, five navy men were at the checkpoint.
“Two officers have been confirmed dead and two were injured and currently receiving treatment in hospital. One officer escaped unhurt,” the statement said.
The Public Relation Officer of the Navy, Aidi Simi, could not give a detailed response when quizzed by the press.
“My command will get to you shortly; we are trying to take charge of the situation,” Simi responded.
