A local vigilante group in the coastal community of Agadagba Obon in Ondo state has arrested four Fulani herdsmen who were in possession of guns and other offensive weapons. The arrest took place on Thursday after the herdsmen were caught with weapons. Currently, the suspects are in police custody.
The arrest was confirmed by Femi Joseph the Police Public Relations Officer who said the matter concerning the unidentified suspects was still being investigated. He listed the weapons seized as guns, cutlasses, daggers and axes.
“They have been handed over to us and when we interrogated them, they told us that they were farmers that they wanted to board a boat to Edo state but we have begun an investigation to ascertain their claims,” said the Police PRO.
Mr. Femi also stated that there was no report of anyone killed by the weapons recovered from the herdsmen.
The menace of the herdsmen has prevented most people in the community especially women from going to their farms due to the fear of violent attacks from the herdsmen. This has caused a group in the community called the Arogbo Ijaw Community Organization to request that security agencies step in to stop Fulani herdsmen from entering the community.
