The Taraba state correspondent of The Sun newspaper, Mr Sylvanus Viashima was on Thursday night attacked by armed assailants, who stabbed him several times.
The four assailants reportedly attacked Viashima in his house, after they trailed him to the house in a tricycle.
The journalist and a female companion were said to have gone to buy airtime around 11pm when they were followed unknowingly by the assailants.
Viashima, who the assailants left in a pool of his own blood, is said to be receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo.
The female companion who preferred anonymity said the assailants sneaked up on the victim and stabbed him several times.
She said the assailants immediately took to their heels after the stabbing.
She added that the assailants did not take any of the victim’s belongings.
