Kaduna Governor, El-Rufai and wives - Hadiza, Asia and Ummi

The Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai is an achiever in many regards, and so are his three wives that he flaunted at his 60th birthday ceremony on Monday.

Below is brief information about these three elegant women behind the success of the diminutive political dynamo:

Hadiza Isma el-Rufai

Like her husband, el-Rufai’s first wife will be 60 years old this year, having been born on June 21, 1960. A Kano State indigene, she married Nasir in 1985, although they first met in 1976 while both students of the Ahmadu Bello University,  Zaria.

A well-read lady, Hadiza holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Architecture (1983) and an MBA (1992) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She also bagged a Master’s degree in Creative Writing (2012) from Bath Spa University, United Kingdom.

She was an Architecture lecturer at the Kaduna Polytechnic and also had a stint with the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), where she spent a few years.

Hadiza currently runs Yasmin El-Rufai Foundation, set up to honour her late daughter, who died in 2001.

A critically-acclaimed author of “An Abundance of Scorpions”, she is fluent in Hausa, English and French.

Asia Ahmad el-Rufai

Asia, the Kaduna governor’s second wife, is a lawyer.

After her call to the bar, she worked briefly with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA). She then left to practice law under a principal before setting up her own private practice after a while.

Her quest for public service experience led her to abandon private practice, for a while, to join the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and later the Debt Management Office (DMO), where she stayed for nine years.

She has since resuscitated her private practice and also teaches Law at Baze University in Abuja.

Currently, Asia is enrolled to study Forensic Psychology and Criminal Investigation at the University of Liverpool, in a bid to reposition her law firm as one of the top criminal law firms in Nigeria.

She got married to Nasir over 21 years ago and is the proud mother of Bilqiss, who scored nine A pluses in her Cambridge exam in 2018, as a student of The Regent Secondary School in Abuja.

Ummi Garba El-Rufai

The Kaduna governor seems to have a thing for Kano women as Ummi, his third wife, was born in the same state his first wife hails from, although her parents are indigenes of Jigawa.

An Interior Decorator by profession, she bagged a Political Science degree from the University of Abuja in 2003.

Ummi first worked with Pension Fund Administrator, then First Alliances, now ARM Pension, where she rose to the position of  Manager, Customer Relations.

She then moved to work with the presidency in the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA).

However, she has chosen to stop working and concentrate on her marital life.

She engages in interior decorations in her spare time.
