A 39-year-old applicant, Joseph Ijewere, on Tuesday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over the alleged theft of N2.7 million.
Ijewere, who resides at No. 11, Bode Thomas Str., Surulere, Lagos is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the accused conspired with others still at large, to commit the offence.
Osuji said that the incident took place on Dec. 16, at Masters Furniture at Agungi, Lekki, in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.
He said that the accused stole the sum of N2.7 million, property of Masters Furniture Ltd.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge preferred against him.
Consequently, the Magistrate, Mrs A. T. Omoyele, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed, show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos state government and have their addresses verified.
The case was adjourned till Jan. 24, 2017 for mention. (NAN)
