The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State has announced its intention to take over the leadership of the state in 2027. This declaration was made by the APC Chairman in Abia, Kingsley Ononogbu, during an event at Abiriba Stadium in Abiriba, Ohafia LGA of Abia State on Friday. The event also marked the defection of a former prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kelvin Jombo Onumah, to the APC along with his supporters.
Ononogbu emphasized that the APC would rely on the achievements of key party figures, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in the Senate, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu in the House of Representatives, and Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, to secure victory in the 2027 elections. He noted that the party had learned from its past mistakes and was now more united and prepared to govern the state.
“We expect that if we take over Abia State in 2027, you will see more actions, verifiable actions,” Ononogbu stated. He also presented the APC flag to Kelvin Jombo, commending him for making the right choice by joining the party.
In his speech, Jombo expressed his commitment to attracting development to his constituency of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal constituency and Abia North at large. He also pledged to add value to the APC and work towards the party’s success.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who was also present at the event, reiterated his appeal to Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform programs. He assured the public that the current hardships and hunger in the country would be overcome. Kalu also called for fair reportage of the APC’s achievements, emphasizing that the party remained the largest in the country.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abraham Amah, issued a statement on Friday, asserting that his party would bounce back despite the challenges and the defection of some members.
