The senator representing Sokoto North in the 8th Senate, Alhaji Aliyu Wammako has dismissed reports making the rounds that the APC caucus in the House was seeking a replacement for embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
Wamakko, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress, also dismissed as untrue alleged plots by the Peoples Democratic Party to take over the Senate by installing a Senate President from the PDP despite the party’s numerical disadvantage.
It will be recalled that Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki is facing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on charges bordering on false declaration of assets when he was Kwara state governor between 2003 and 2011.
Wamakko, who is a former governor of Sokoto state, stated that the apparent plethora of meetings by members of the upper chamber since the beginning of Dr. Saraki’s travails were geared towards better positioning the Senate under his (Saraki’s) leadership and not to find a replacement.
Describing reports to the contrary as the figment of the reporter’s imagination, Wamakko said the Senate was solidly behind Dr. Saraki.
Furthermore, Sen. Wamakko also described as outright lies any suggestion that there was a strained relationship between President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
“I see Mr. President, Saraki and Senators holding a meeting very soon on how to salvage democracy which certain elements have been trying to subvert. They will find time to meet to stop our opponents from progressing with acts to sabotage of democracy,” Wamakko declared.
