The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its delight with the sustained successes recorded by the Nigeria military in the war against the Boko Haram terrorists in northeast Nigeria.
The party said the successes showed the military was poised to meet the November deadline set by President Muhammadu Buhari to vanquish the menace of the insurgents from the country.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, issued on Sunday in Lagos, the party said the mere fact that the terrorists were now surrendering in record numbers was enough prove the military were alive to their responsibility of defending the country against any form of internal or external aggression.
The party identified the continued push to dislodge the terrorists from their strongholds including Sambisa forest; the dismantling of the terrorists’ fuel depot and other logistics; and, the rescue of captured victims especially women and children, as proof that the Boko Haram were now losing their campaign of terror against the Nigerian state.
According to the statement, ”the bigger picture of the impending Boko Haram defeat is the restoration of the much-vaunted capability of the Nigerian military and its globally-acclaimed professionalism that have vaulted Nigeria to the elite group of top global peace-keeping nations.
”The sharp turnaround in the war against Boko Haram, which had hitherto seen the terrorists gaining territories and striking at times and places of their own choosing, is also an indication of what a nation can achieve under a purposeful, committed, disciplined and sincere leadership.”
Similarly, the APC urged the military to adopt intelligence gathering techniques that will stop the hit-and-run tactics the terrorists have now resorted to as a result of their losing heavily when in open combat with the military.
While praising the service chiefs for the audacious moves that have seen them often physically leading their troops as a morale-boosting exercise, the APC extolled the professionalism and gallantry of the soldiers who sometimes lose their lives in the process of defending their fatherland.
The party urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the continued success of the war against insurgency.
