The National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has laughed off the purported endorsement of Adams Oshiomhole to replace him as APC chairman at the National Convention of the party scheduled for May 2018.
The 79-year-old Odigie-Oyegun, who is a former Governor of Edo State like Oshiomhole, described the endorsement as “childish”.
Speaking to some reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, Odigie-Oyegun said the party next chairman of the party would be determined at the National Convention, not in state Government Houses.
When asked, he declined to disclose if he will be presenting himself for the position.
However, he disclosed that he had completed consultations on whether he should re-contest for the post.
On endorsement of Oshiomhole by some powerful elements in the party, Odigie-Oyegun said, “It was childish. Absolutely childish! The voting is done at the convention and not in state houses, not in government houses.”
He equally condemned the endorsement of Oshiomhole by the Edo State Chapter of the party, describing it as “wrong”.
He added, “They have their reasons for what they did and you have to respect their own reasons, however, wrong it is. Don’t bother about this teaser; I will give a comprehensive interview, to speak with you when the time comes.”
The party boss promised to announce his decision on whether to contest or not soon after the Convention Committee of the APC unveils its programmes.
