The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has described the struggle as alive, and condemned as illiterates those saying the struggle for the creation of a Biafran state died with the end of the Nigerian Civil War in 1970.
This was disclosed by MASSOB’s spiritual leader and field commander, Brother Ndubuisi Igwekani in a Saturday interview with New Telegraph.
He said: Those who said Biafra died with the civil war are illiterates. They think we are the illiterates but they are the illiterates. Whether they like it or not, we are Biafrans. Biafra can never be killed, it can never be destroyed. Biafra remains in the blood of every true Igbo man. Biafra remains in every man within the old Eastern states. It can never die, it is alive.
Those sponsoring such campaign that Biafra died decades ago are lacking in logical reasoning and operating on low mentality. After all, the Yorubas have an identity, they are called Oduduwa people, and nothing has changed that nomenclature till date. What is the meaning of Arewa?
Is it not the identity of the Hausa and Fulani people? Why don’t they call themselves Hausa and Fulani? Instead, they chose to be called Arewa people. They taught Igbo people are illiterates, who don’t know what they are doing. If Yoruba people are represented on negotiation table under Oduduwa, and Hausa and Fulani under Arewa platform, on what platform are the Igbo going to be recognized?
These are people you are expecting from South- East region. So long as we remain in Nigeria and they (Federal Government) want us to come as South-Easterners, we should be referred to as Biafrans.
