Gov. Ishaku advises FG on state police

The Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, has advocated for the creation of state police to tackle the menace of insecurity across the country.

He made the call while stating that he was helpless to tackle insecurity in Taraba, noting that he had no control over any security apparatus in the state.

Speaking with journalists in the state capital, Jalingo on Wednesday, the governor added that any governor who said he could tackle insecurity was lying.

He called on residents to pray for peace in the state.

Ishaku said, “If any governor tells you that he will do anything about insecurity, such a governor is lying. As governors we don’t have control over the police or the army and virtually there is nothing we can do about security.

“We have been calling for the establishment of state police, but nobody seems to consider our position, but state police remains the only viable option to contain insecurity across the country now.

“The constitution does not place the security architecture of the country in the hands of governors. I am praying myself for peace and I have also asked the people of the state to pray for peace in the state.”

Ishaku, who was re-elected for a second term in the 2019 general election, promised to consolidate on his achievements in his first term, especially in the area of agriculture.
