The Nigerian Army has reported significant success in its anti-bunkering operations in the Niger Delta, noting a drastic reduction in oil theft and an increase in national oil production. These efforts have been instrumental in supporting the economic recovery agenda of the federal government.
Brigadier General Jafaar Ibrahim, Commander of the 2nd Brigade Nigerian Army, made this known during the brigade’s combined West African Social Activities (WASA) celebration on Saturday at the military cantonment in Mbiokporo, Nsit-Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
General Ibrahim highlighted that the brigade’s operations, including “Operation Delta Safe Joint Task Force South-South (Sector 4)” and “Operation Thunder,” have significantly reduced criminal activities in Akwa Ibom and restored residents’ confidence in their security.
“The continuous conduct of various operations in the brigade’s area of responsibility has drastically decreased security threats and rekindled confidence,” he stated. “The anti-bunkering operation is also curbing oil theft to the barest minimum in the state and boosting national oil production to the optimum level for improved national recovery.”
He reiterated the brigade’s dedication to working with other security agencies to ensure peace and stability for law-abiding citizens in Akwa Ibom.
The event’s special guest, retired Ambassador General Godwin Umo, commended the 2nd Brigade for hosting the event and praised their efforts. He described WASA as an age-old tradition of the Nigerian Army designed to celebrate successes and foster camaraderie among troops.
“By nature, the military profession is full of challenges, stress, and tension,” Umo said. “WASA and other social functions are designed to de-emphasize such stress and tension, enabling troops to confront challenges with renewed vigor.”
