Chief Ikedi Ohakim, the former governor of Imo State, has secured himself a legal proceeding at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja after failing to defend himself against the three-count criminal charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Ohakim appeared before Justice Ademola Adeniyi yesterday with respect to the three-count charges bordering on money laundering, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.
The presiding judge, Justice Ademola Adeniyi however in his ruling ordered that Ohakim had a case to answer following the establishment of a prima-facie criminal case against him by the anti-graft agency, EFCC.
The court further threw Ohakim’s no-case-submission suit out as it ordered the former governor to open his defence on October 10.
Recall that the charges leveled against Ohakim by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission stemmed from the discovery of a property located at 60, Kwame Nkrumah Street, Plot No 1098, Cadastral ZoneA04, Asokoro District, Abuja.
The property which was said to have been paid for in cash was alleged to belong to Ohakim and worth about N270 million as at November 2008.
