An angry mob burnt an alleged armed robber alive at the Oyo state Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, on Wednesday.
Eye witnesses recounted to newsmen that two armed robbery suspects stole the mobile telephone set of a certain, Tobi Adebayo, a resident of Owode, Apata, in Ibadan, the state capital.
The robbery suspects are yet to be identified.
The Herald Nigeria however gathered that Adebayo, whose telephone set was stolen, had attempted to recover the stolen item from the robbers.
The robbers, both mounted on a motorbike, were chased down by an angry mob where they had an accident at Agodi area, Ibadan.
The suspects were said to have run into one of the numerous potholes on the road, with one dying instantly and the other left badly injured.
“Incident of robbery/fatal motor/motorcycle accident. Today, Wednesday, December 16, at about 3:30pm, one Adeboye Tobi, 27years old, of plot 4, Oowde Apata, Ibadan, was robbed at Favours area, Awolowo, Bodija, Ibadan, of his Vivo 400 android phone and a bag containing some papers, by two okada riders,” a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo state command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, read.

“Sequel to this, he immediately pursued them with his Toyota Corolla car with registration number, LAGOS KRD 573 CH, along Dandaru Road, opposite INEC office, where the hoodlums suddenly entered into a pothole and lost control of the bike and fell off.
“One of them died instantly, while the other sustained varying degrees of injuries . At the receipt of the information, the DPO, Agodi, moved to the scene, but before his arrival, the injured robber had been set ablaze by the mob numbering 200.
“Meanwhile, efforts are still on to remove the corpses to the morgue. Investigation has commenced into the incident,” the statement concluded.
