Andy Murray Dispatches Marcel Granollers With Ease To Reach Madrid Quarters

Andy Murray

Andy Murray won his second match in less than 24 hours, beating Marcel Granollers 6-2 6-0 to reach the Madrid Open quarters.

The British number one recovered superbly from his win over Philipp Kohlschreiber in the early hours of Thursday morning to edge past the Spaniard.

Murray shot out of the blocks, breaking Granollers in the fourth and eighth games of the opener before using the momentum to run away with the match.

The second seed then broke Granollers three more times in the second and final set – including a splendid final game of the match when he fought back from 0-40 down on the Spaniard’s serve.

The Scot will now face fifth seed Milos Raonic after the Canadian beat comfortably Leonardo Mayer 6-4 6-3.

“I felt very tired today,” said Murray.

“If they want to see the top players playing the best tennis, don’t have them play matches at three o’clock in the morning.”

He added: “I tried to pump myself as much as possible for this match and bluff [Granollers] to show I was feeling OK.

“I got through this one fairly quickly. It’s been a good start for me. Hopefully, I’ll play a good match in the quarters.”
