American Pop stars Allegedly Steal Phyno’s Song

2 Min Read

It’s no longer news that Nigerian songs are growing in increasing popularity all over the globe and based on that foreign artists are bound to make covers or do respective remixes of the greatest hit songs.

However, to brazenly use a song without adequate permission is tantamount to stealing and robbing the victim of their hard-earned work, so much so when the victim is thought to come from a supposedly ‘backwater’ country like ours.

In theory, an imitation of another person’s sound with permission is allowed and can be done with a few tweaks here and there…..But without permission, that’s a copyright infringement; a crime that often draws penalties with varying degrees of harshness all over the world to show that it’s a highly brazen form of stealing.

Reports have surfaced online that one of Phyno’s songs titled ‘I’m A Fan’ was allegedly stolen by an American duo American pop singer Pia Mia and R&B star Jeremih.

TheNet.ng reports that the song was reported to be an exact replicate of the one that Phyno featured Mr Eazi and Decarlo in.

While it was not one of the most popular tracks on the album but it’s not a bad song at all. It has a very nice wave that makes it soothing.

On listening to it you’d find that there are similarities between both songs…Too many similarities. On further scrutiny of the lyrical content, it would be noticed she made slight alterations to the exact lyrics changing it from a first person perspective to that of the second person…However, the beat/tempo of the song remains the same.

We would like to know what the copyright laws say on issues like this before going ahead however it would be worth mentioning that Phyno’s management had been contacted by TheNet.ng and no feedback had been received thus far.

You can listen to both tracks with the following links;
