Best known for his role in popular sitcom, ‘Friends’, American actor, Matthew Perry, is dead.
Perry died aged 54 of apparent drowning after he was found motionless in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on Saturday.
Law enforcement said a 911 call was received by Los Angeles Police, at 4.07 pm local time.
There was no apparent foul play and no confirmed cause of death, although an investigation is ongoing.
Perry gained popularity playing Chandler Bing in the 1990s popular sitcom ‘Friends’, featuring alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer.
Warner Bros. Television Group, which produced ‘Friends’, said, “We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry.
“Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family.
“The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many.
“This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans.”
The actor was open about his struggle with substance abuse, releasing a memoir about it in 2022.
