After the reports that some Lagosians were harassed by some Lagos State Task Force officials on the 3rd of September, the governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has swung into action calling for their redeployment.
The incident happened on the island and the people harassed were arrested for no apparent reason and detained and told to settle to be bailed out.
In response Ambode has sent a formal request to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, asking for the redeployment of some police officers attached to the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences Unit thereby getting rid of them.
The request was contained in a statement by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde and requested the immediate redeployment of some of the officers attached to the task force over their unacceptable behaviour.
The statement stated that the redeployment request was in order not to have something like that repeat itself where normal Lagosians will be harassed for no reason. The statement said that preliminary investigation showed that the unauthorized raid was carried out with the knowledge of the second in command to the Chairman of the Taskforce, SP Taiwo Adeoluwa without the approval of the Chairman, SP. Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi.
The statement said, “The conduct of the affected officers is not in tandem with the vision of Lagos State Government and is therefore condemnable.
“Their conduct is also unbecoming of officers who are expected to protect the citizenry and ensure that citizens and visitors find every part of the State safe and conducive enough not only on Friday nights but every day.”
