The immediate past Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr. Dalhatu Sarki Tafida and founding member of the People’s Democratic Party has exited the party on Saturday.
He made this known in an interview with the BBC Hausa in Lagos, yesterday.
An avid supporter of former President Jonathan, Tafida, a native of Kaduna, one of the states where the PDP was roundly defeated in the 2015 presidential election, has maintained a low profile since after the loss.
But speaking in the interview yesterday, head of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential campaign in 2011 told the BBC that for the PDP, the market had ended and it was time for every responsible man to go home.
He recalled with nostalgia, the good fortunes of the party in the past, and lamented the reign of impunity and confusion, which had taken over the party.
“I have decided to leave PDP and I will not join another party. I left because there is no focus. If a market is over, a responsible man should go home. Now the market is over. It was good in the past, but now it is the worst, with impunity and confusion,” Tafida said.
He further said the decision to leave the party was because it had been reduced to nothing.
“The party has been destroyed and reduced to nothing, and I have decided to dump the party. I don’t think our stay in the party is wise, because the people now abuse everyone, and no one will even listen to you”, he said.
He regretted the negativity surrounding the party, and cited a lack of willingness by the party’s leaders to listen to its founding members.
Tafida said he won’t join another party, but will continue to serve the country in other ways.
Ever since the losses it suffered in the 2015 general election, things have fallen apart in the party which once touted itself as Africa’s largest and one to hold power at the centre for 60 years.
