Chelsea’s scuffled victory over Stoke City on Monday night arguably projected them clear favourites to win the EPL title.
Jose Mourinho’s side tripped to Britannia Stadium looking their best to face Stoke City who were also up to the challenge.
Chelsea’s first attempt came within 90secs into the match as Branislav Ivanovic fired at goal, but his shot was punched down.
Fabregas took the resulting corner and John Terry was in line to head in their first.
Thibaut Courtois ensured Chelsea stayed ahead with a powerful save of Steven Nzonzi’s deflected shot.
With only 12 minutes to the end of the game, Cesc Fabregas scored for Chelsea, securing the 3 points they needed to stay atop the League table.
Jose Mourinho was pleased with the team after the victory.
“All of them were amazing,” he said.
“Every one of them did their job perfectly. We made some changes to the normal way of playing, to adapt to playing in such a difficult stadium.
“It was a fantastic performance. It was one of those matches where the victory means more than just the three points. You can feel the right spirit, the right atmosphere and what the players are ready to do; to try and win the championship. I’m very pleased, as we won in one of the most difficult places to win.”
