The award winning Tolulope Oniru, popularly known as Toolz is a vivacious and award-winning on-air personality who had gained extensive experience within the British entertainment industry, in this interview with Ibukun Akinyemi, Toolz shares more light on people’s assumption about female celebrities.
You have remained for various reasons, how have you striven to be relevant?
I think the fact that I always find ways to better myself still makes me relevant. I firmly believe that learning is an ongoing journey – if you think you know it all, that will inevitably stunt your growth.
Sometimes even with all the fame and money do you feel sad?
(Laugh) I don’t have enough money to be happy all the time. Nevertheless, money does not answer all problems.
People think Tolu is a sex symbol, how true is that?
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is flattering, but I try not to think about it too much.
In what special way would you describe yourself?
I am me, compassionate, hardworking, silly and love life to the fullest!!
How humble are you?
I don’t think humility is something that can be quantified, but I think it’s important to stay grounded and not let your successes get to your head.
People say female celebrities are always proud and never think of getting married, what is your take on that?
Most of my female colleagues in the industry are not against marriage, but I think if you are a career-driven woman people think you never want to get married, which is a very old-fashioned way of thinking.
Your favourite designers?
I love Vivienne Westwood, Ejiro Amos Tafiri.
Would you consider yourself a fashionable person?
(Laughs) Not really.
Do you believe in expensive things?
If you can afford it, why not?
That kind of accessories you won’t do without?
I love my bags, clutches to mention a few.
What is your take on toning?
You should love the skin you are in. However, I think there are ways to improve the appearance of your skin without using harmful chemicals.
What about tattoo and piercing?
I am not against them.
What is that thing you would never be caught up doing?
Probably fighting or acting unlady-like.
Tolu looking elegantly sexy, what is your greatest physical asset?
My smile and my eyes.
Would you praise nudity as a good way of life?
No!
A peep into your background?
I grew up and schooled in the UK and then moved to Nigeria in 2009.
Considering your stature, have you ever wished to be something else?
I have always wanted to be taller.
In your quiet moment, what runs through your mind?
I often think about what life would be like if I lived on a deserted island.
Have you ever been embarrassed by a fan before?
Yes! Lots of times. I still get shy and embarrassed when someone comes up to me and says ‘TOOLZ’.
What would you do if you caught your spouse in the act?
I would probably scream and leave the room, then plot my revenge (Laughs)
What next for Toolz?
Further establishing, expanding my brand and making more money God willing.
Your last word for young females without dreams.
Having dreams makes you realise your purpose in life. Never ever think a certain goal is beyond you. The power to turn your dreams into reality lies within you, be prayerful, hardworking, believe in yourself and anything is possible.
