The management of First Consultants Hospitals & Medical Centre has said that it did not allow the Liberian Ebola patient to leave the hospital due to concerns that he would infect others.

A statement signed by the Chief Consultant/ Medical director, Dr B.N. Ohiaeri and the Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist, Dr. A.S. Adadevoh, said the deceased was brought into the hospital sick but conscious and was able to respond to questions put to him.
They said initial diagnosis of his blood sample at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital laboratory confirmed he had the Ebola Virus Disease.
According to the management, the institution was under pressure to release the victim.
They said : “We refused to let him out of the hospital in spite of intense pressure as we were told he was a senior ECOWAS official who had an important role to play at the ECOWAS Convention in Calabar, Cross River state.
