Alleged Terrorist Turkish-Nigerian School Issues Statement

2 Min Read

Nigerian Turkish International College has debunked claims by the Turkish government that it was involved in the recent coup in the country.

It therefore, urged the Nigerian government to reject the call by Turkey to close down the 17 Turkish schools in Nigeria.

The Turkish ambassador, Hakan Cakil had written to the Nigerian government, alleging that some institutions in the country are owned by the Fethullah Gulen Terrorist Organization.

Cakil made the call on Wednesday when Shehu Sani, Vice-Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, paid him a courtesy visit.

According to the ambassador, investigations by the Turkish government have linked the Fethullah Gulen Terrorist Organisation (FETO) to the failed coup attempt, which claimed over 300 lives.

However, in a statement signed by the Managing Director of the schools, Mr. Orhan Kertim, the call by the Turkish Ambassador to the Nigerian government to close down the schools in Nigeria was baseless.

Kertim noted that the schools are operating in partnership with Nigerians and they are not Turkish government-owned.

He also described the call by the ambassador as an affront since Nigeria is a sovereign state.

Meanwhile, a list of institutions in Nigeria allegedly linked to the Turkish Coup has surfaced.
