Alleged assault: Absence of 4 FRSC officials stalls arraignment

The absence of four officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), accused of assaulting a police officer, was on Monday stalled in an FCT High Court, Kubwa, Abuja.

The police was to arraign Olorunfemi Olufemi, Ugwu Okechukwu, Dauda Markus and Emmanuel Ofu-Owoicho of Lugbe Command, Abuja on nine counts, bordering on assault and criminal force.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Adama Musa, told the court that the suspects had been on administrative bail since the matter was reported on May 31.

He said the suspects were served with copies of the charge against them, which was sent to the Sector Commander, FRSC, through the Legal Office.

But the suspect’s counsel, Rems Umeha, disagreed with the prosecution counsel, saying that his clients were supposed to be served personally and not through the sector commander.

The police alleged that the suspects, while at Dunamis Church Headquarters, Airport Road, Lugbe, Abuja, broke the windows of a Toyota Corolla car belonging to DSP Rosemary Sugit on May 31.

The prosecution alleged that the suspects also removed N200, 000 from the vehicle.

Justice Kezziah Ogbonnaya, however, ordered that the Sector Commander to  ensure that the suspects were served.

Ogbonnaya adjourned the matter until April 21, for arraignment.
