Akwa Ibom NUJ Boycotts Femi Fani Kayode’s Press Conference

2 Min Read

The Akwa-Ibom State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has directed its members not to attend a press conference planned on behalf of the former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode.

The boycott order was used by the State chapter after the former minister insulted a Daily Trust journalist at a press conference organised on his behalf at Cross Rivers State.

The fiasco had attracted outrage from the general public as well as the Nigerian press who berated Femi Fani Kayode for the brash behaviour. According to the NUJ President, Chris Isiugo, the behaviour of the former minister was disappointing being someone who claims to hold leaders to account.

“By denigrating the journalist, Fani Kayode has exposed himself the more as an intolerant and unstable person who will not want his activities closely scrutinized by the media,” he said.

Although the ex-minister apologized, the Nigerian Press is yet to forgive Fani Kayode, whom many have described as proud and arrogant.

Femi Fani Kayode, announced his arrival in Uyo, the capital of Akwa-Ibom State on Thursday as part of his tour of PDP controlled states across Niger Delta.

In reaction to his announcement, the state chapter if the NUJ ordered its members not to attend any activity organised by the former minister.
