The All Progressives Congress (APC) has indicated its desire to appeal the decision of the Akwa Ibom Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja not to nullify the election of incumbent Governor Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party.
This is coming on the heels of the decision by the Tribunal to nullify elections in 18 out of the 31 Local Government Areas of the state.
The party’s decision was announced to newsmen by the State Chairman of the party, Dr. Amadu Atai, on Wednesday.
Dr. Atai said the party had expected an outright cancellation of the governorship election on the strength of the cancellation of elections in more than half the state’s LGAs.
“The tribunal has cancelled the governorship elections in 18 local government areas and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct elections in the affected areas.
“But we are going to file an appeal because we expected cancellation in more local government areas where discrepancies were pervasive.”
