American – Senegalese musician/mogul Akon has made tons of money signing artists like Lady Gaga and T-Pain. One of the major artists he passed on was Drake and he stated recently that he has no regrets about the missed opportunity.
A TMZ photographer caught Akon outside of an airport and asked him about not scooping Drake when he had the chance. Akon passed on Drake back in 2005 when Drake was still known for playing Wheelchair Jimmy on Canadian TV show Degrassi rather than being a hitmaking machine.
“At the time when I passed on him, he wasn’t what he is today. He grew into the incredible artist. Everybody has a starting point,” Akon said. “At that time, he wasn’t ready, in my opinion.”
Akon went on to say that he doesn’t think about how much money he could’ve made with Drake because “not everything is meant to travel through you.” The Konvict label head also said Drake had to go through the process of being rejected by various labels to get to where he is now.
“I wouldn’t have done anything different. Everything Drake has done has been the right way,” Akon concluded.
