Five weeks after the indiscriminate shooting and killing of a young lady, Ada Ifeanyi, in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State, the primary suspect, Dania Ojo, still remains wanted, according to police reports.
The deceased alongside her boyfriend and one other man were going back home in the early hours of Saturday, April 13, 2019, when the Ojo and five other policemen chased their vehicle and began to shoot sporadically at them.
The gunshots killed Ada instantly, while her boyfriend sustained several wounds on different parts of his body.
Although five of the police officers involved were subsequently arrested, Ojo fled the scene and has been in hiding since then.
While giving an update about the incident, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, DSP, Bala Elkana, stated that Ojo would be promptly prosecuted as soon as he is arrested, adding that some disciplinary actions have already been put in place.
Bala said, “We are still on the trail of the fleeing policeman. There are rules in the police. We tried him in absentia and found him guilty of wrongful use of firearms. We have dismissed him and stopped his salary. The only thing left is that whenever we apprehend him, we will arraign him in court.”
Narrating the account given by the police officers, Bala said, “
“The man and the lady were returning from a club when they said the car they were in hit an inspector. Ojo left his duty post and chased the car on a motorcycle”.
He mentioned that the primary suspect then became fanatical and began to shoot at the car.
He further explained that after arresting the other five officers on duty for that day, investigations conducted revealed that Ojo carried out the misconduct singularly, hence others have been released.
