In response to recent reports suggesting a second leg amputation for the ailing actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, his family has stepped forward to clarify the situation. Contrary to earlier statements by the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Dr Emeka Rollas, the family stated that Mr Ibu has not undergone amputation on both legs.
In a statement posted on the actor’s Instagram page on Saturday, the family explained that the second amputation was performed on the same leg that had previously undergone the procedure. This decision was made as the initial amputation did not fully address Mr Ibu’s health issues. The family disclosed that the actor faced persistent blood clotting in his leg, along with other health challenges that posed a serious risk to his life, necessitating the need for the additional amputation.
Dispelling rumors of diabetes, the family clarified that Mr Ibu’s health concerns primarily revolved around diseased blood vessels. They further addressed speculations about seeking advanced treatment abroad, revealing that doctors have deemed him “Not fit to fly,” thus keeping him within the country for medical care.
Despite the challenging health circumstances, the family expressed optimism about Mr Ibu’s recovery and called on his friends, colleagues, fans, and Nigerians in general to keep him in their thoughts and prayers. They also urged everyone to refrain from spreading unconfirmed reports regarding the actor’s health.
