The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has issued a distressing update on the health of ailing Nollywood veteran, John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu.
According to Dr Emeka Rollas, the AGN National President, Mr Ibu has recently undergone another leg amputation and is now facing severe difficulty in speech. The AGN is rallying for prayers and support for the iconic actor during this challenging time.
Dr Rollas revealed these developments in a conversation with newsmen, expressing the association’s deep concern not only for Mr Ibu but also for another veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor, whose health has been deteriorating rapidly.
Amaechi Muonagor has been hospitalized at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Anambra State, for over two months. Dr Rollas painted a grim picture of Muonagor’s current state, describing him as “currently a shadow of his old self.”
Last month, Mr Ibu’s family disclosed that the actor underwent multiple surgeries, resulting in the amputation of one of his legs. Plans were underway to fly him abroad for further treatment. The AGN president has now provided an update, revealing, “As I speak with you, Mr Ibu hardly talks again and he has undergone another leg amputation.”
Expressing the dire situation, Dr Rollas called on fans and well-wishers to join hands with philanthropic Nigerians to support both Mr Ibu and Amaechi Muonagor during this challenging time. He acknowledged sending a sum of N250,000 from the AGN Trust Fund to Mr Ibu’s account but stressed that more support was needed.
