Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has revealed reasons behind the suspension of Ibrahim Magu as Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It would be recalled that Magu was arrested on Monday, July 6 by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday on allegations of fraud and misappropriation of recovered loot.
His official residence in Maitama was also ransacked by security operatives who found no incriminating documents against the suspended EFCC boss.
Reacting to the suspension AGF Malami disclosed Magu’s suspension was to enable Presidential Investigation Panel conduct a thorough investigation without any interference .
He made this known in a statement released by his media aide Umar Gwandu.
The statement reads in part, “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate suspension of Ibrahim Magu as Ag. Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in order to allow for unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws.”
