Agency appeals to Niger Govt. to Subsidise Production of Sanitisers

The Niger State Drugs and Hospitals Consumables Management Agency (NSDHCMA) has called on the state government to subsidise production of hand sanitisers toward making it affordable to the public.

Mr Mohammed Audi, Executive Director, NSDHCMA made the call during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Tuesday.

“Now that the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) has become a serious health challenge across the world, there is need to make the hand sanitisers available and affordable to the people of the state,” he said.

Audu said that the two categories of hand sanitisers produced by NSDHCMA; alcoholic and non-alcoholic sanitisers had proven to be effective in controlling the pandemic through hand contact.

He said that before now the agency was established by the state government to produce hand sanitisers and other hospital consumables.

The Executive Director said that the raw material of the agency depend on imported material and has increased as a result of the global lock down owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He thanked the state government for creating the enabling environment for the agency to produce hospital consumables.

Also, Mr Mathias Pmabi, Head of Central Medical Store in the state, said that before now 250 mills of the sanitisers were sold for two thousand naira but was later reduced to N1, 500.

Pmabi said that due to the high demand for the sanitisers by the public there was need to produce more and further reduce the price to enable the people have them in their homes.
