Again Twitter flags Trump’s post on winning US presidential poll

President Donald Trump was furious Friday after Twitter flagged his post where he claimed to have won the US presidential election by “legal votes past”.

The US president noted that Twitter was able to do this because of protection offered by Section 230 of Title 47 of the United States Code passed as part of the Communication Decency Act of 1996.

Taking to the social media platform Friday morning, Trump wrote, “I easily WIN the Presidency of the United States with LEGAL VOTES CAST.

“The OBSERVERS were not allowed, in any way, shape, or form, to do their job and therefore, votes accepted during this period must be determined to be ILLEGAL VOTES. U.S. Supreme Court should decide!”

However, Twitter flagged the content as potentially “misleading”.

The post was restricted from plain view, and users have to click a “view” icon placed beside the restricted post to access it.

Twitter also attached a warning stating “some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about an election or other civic process”.

Hitting back at the social media platform, Twitter wrote, “Twitter is out of control, made possible through the government gift of Section 230!”

Section 230 protects a blog host from liability for “any action voluntarily taken in good faith to restrict access to or availability of material that the provider or user considers to be obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable, whether or not such material is constitutionally protected.”

According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), this would include editing or deleting posts the blog host considers objectionable, even if those posts would be protected by the First Amendment against government censorship.

Trump is presently trailing Biden by four million votes.
