A pastor, Rev Polycarp Zango, has regained his freedom after more than seven months in Boko Haram captivity.
Zango, who presided over a branch of the Church of Christ in Nations in Jos, Plateau State, was abducted on October 19, 2020.
He fell into Boko Haram’s hands while heading to a ministers’ conference in Gombe State.
President of the Gideon & Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, Rev Gideon Para-Mallam confirmed the cleric’s release.
He said he had spoken to Zango after his release, adding that the insurgents freed the pastor alongside other abductees in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Herald can report that twelve days after his abduction, news of his release filtered into town, getting his church members at the Cost area of Jos in a mood of jubilation.
However, their hopes were dashed when the news turned out to be false.
“I just spoke with him. His release, this time, is true.
“He was released on Monday night by his abductors in Maiduguri and I was told that he would soon return to Jos any moment from now. We really thank God for sparing his life after several months in captivity,” Para-Mallam said.
