AfriSAFE honours Zambia Sugar CEO, others at 2023 award event

The Managing Director of Zambia Sugar, Oswald Magwenzi, has been conferred with the Iconic Man of the Year award at the Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) gala held in Lagos.

At the event held on Friday, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AfriSAFE, Mr. Femi Da-silva said that since his appointment in September 2021, Magwenzi has provided astute leadership at Zambia Sugar, spearheading initiatives that have significantly elevated health and safety standards within the organisation.

“This prestigious award is a testament to your unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of safety and well-being across your organisation’s operations.

“Your visionary approach, strategic foresight, and decisive actions have not only enhanced the overall health and safety landscape within the company but have also set a commendable benchmark for the industry as a whole,” Da-silva said.

Other eminent individuals, top professionals and leading organisations also received awards for their contributions to the advancement of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) industry.

The Managing Director of Vitafoam Plc, Mr. Taiwo Ayodele Adeniyi; Managing Director of BUA Foods, Engr. Ayodele Abioye; Country Director for WWF Zambia, Nachilala Nkombo; and Chief Executive Officer of RusselSmith, Kayode Adeleke, won the CEO of the Year awards in the Manufacturing, FCMG, ESG and Oil Servicing categories respectively.

In the CEO Recognition category, Princess Taizir Ajala of Gordon Barrett, Hon. Olaonipekun Kazeem of Focad Global Concept, Engr. Lanre Eyinfunjowo of Dolland Resources, and Engr. Ajibola Ahmadu of Atmos Integrated Services got awarded.

The AfriSAFE Man of the Quinquennium went to CEO of Hybrid Group, Mr. Dapo Omolade and President of JPTS, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, for their outstanding support to HSE causes over the years, from a shortlist that included Engr. Jamiu Badmus, Tokunbo Odebunmi, Funmi Adegbola, Engr. Kayode Fowode and Wale Bakare.

In the Industry Merit Award, top professionals including Fyneray Mbata, Dr. Eugene O. Itua, Anthonia Beri, Cletus Onyemhese Agbakhamen, Engr. Okudor K. Emmanuel, and Hellen Mitole Cliffe were honoured for long-lasting impact within the industry.

Meanwhile, Finsbury Heinz Limited, First Aid Services (Nig.) Enterprise, Golden Africa Djibouti, NMS Infrastructure Limited, RusselSmith Nigeria Limited, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and Stanbic IBTC Holdings, among others were honoured in the organisation category.
