The Africa Film Academy (AFA), the organizing body behind the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), has officially announced the nominees for the 19th edition of the highly anticipated continental awards.
Representatives of the AMAA board, including Mr. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, and the AMAA jury led by Hon Steve Ayorinde, unveiled the nominees on Thursday, September 21. The ceremony was hosted by actor, singer, and voice-over star Segun Arinze at a vibrant gathering in Ikeja, GRA, Lagos.
A solemn one-minute silence was observed during the nomination unveiling to pay respects to the late founder and Chief Executive Officer of AFA and AMAA, Peace Ogechi Anyiam-Osigwe.
According to Mr. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, the 2023 AMAA awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at The Balmoral event centre within Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja GRA, Lagos. He also announced the theme for the 2023 AMAA as ‘The Renaissance.’
Emphasizing that the 2023 AMAA aims to redefine continental awards and set the stage for future editions, Anyiam-Osigwe highlighted the significance of the 20th edition.
Representing the president of the AMAA jury, Keith Shiri, Hon Steve Ayorinde revealed the nominees across 26 categories. Ayorinde emphasized the rigorous and transparent process the jury followed to arrive at the final nominations in each category.
In attendance were notable figures including Chief Operating Officer of AMAA, Tony Anih, Kite Anyiam-Osigwe, a member of the AMAA working team, AMAA technical director Kingsley James, Dr. Shola Animashaun, and Tony Chukwuma.
The Chief Operating Officer of AMAA and Technical Director assured the audience that the 19th edition of AMAA would be a memorable and grand celebration of African cinematic excellence.
