Afghan police on Tuesday, foiled a terrorist attack in Kabul targeting the Ministry of Interior, a government official said.
A man driving a car packed with explosives passed through one security checkpoint near the ministry before being stopped by police at a second checkpoint, said Najib Danish, a ministry spokesman.
“He was identified by police intelligence and taken into custody,” Danish said.
The suspect allegedly had told the security guards that he was sent to help transport a patient to a nearby hospital.
In April, a suicide bomber blew up an explosive-laden mini-truck in a parking lot adjacent to the VIP Protection Directorate – formerly part of the Afghan Intelligence service, killing more than 60 people and wounding more than 300.
The directorate provides security for high-profile government officials.
Kabul has been on heightened alert since the hanging of four Taliban members, one al-Qaeda militant and one Haqqani member in early May.
Many international organisations have been on lockdown due to threat warnings the past few days.
