A Mohamed Salah goal in the second to last minute of added-on time ensured Egypt ended the first leg of the Group G game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a draw.
The Super Eagles had scored the opener in the 60th minute, after a rebound from a Kelechi Iheanacho shot fell to Oghenekaro Etebo, who coolly slotted home.
Nigeria controlled the tempo of the game for most of the game, with Odion Ighalo and Iheanacho coming close to netting.
Substitute Victor Moses also fluffed a great chance of doubling the Super Eagles’ lead after deftly dribbling past the Egyptian keeper but was denied by the superb effort of an Egyptian defender who turned the West Ham winger’s effort wide.
With the result, the Egyptians lead the group with 7 points after three games, with Nigeria second with 5 points in the same number of games.
Tanzania comes 3rd with 4 points and Chad leads from the rear.
The return leg of the Nigeria vs Egypt clash comes up in Alexandria on Tuesday, March 29.
