Sadiq Umar is out of the Super Eagles squad to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 due to injury.
The Super Eagles disclosed this in a post via its verified X handle on Friday, one day before the commencement of the competition taking place in Cote d’Ivoire.
Umar, who plays as a striker for La Liga club Real Sociedad, has been replaced by Paul Onuachu, the lanky striker who plays for Turkish Süper Lig club Trabzonspor on loan from EFL Championship club Southampton.

Umar, 26, picked up a knee injury in Nigeria’s 2-0 friendly defeat to the Syli Stars of Guinea on Monday.
He is the second striker to be left out of the squad after Bayern Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface.
Onuachu, who was at the AFCON 2019 finals in Egypt, but missed the 2021 edition in Cameroon due to injury.
