Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has said that making millions of Nigerian football fans happy is his primary motivation.
The in-form goalkeeper said this in a post-match interview after helping the Super Eagles qualify for the final of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
Nwabali savedd two penalties as Jose Peseiro’s side beat the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 4-2 in Wednesday night’s semi-final clash.
The 27-year-old, who plies his trade with Chippa United of South Africa, said, “I don’t really understand how I am feeling. When I look around, (I see) millions of Nigerians. I only want to make them happy and just make them feel good.”
He said the accolades that have greeted his performance since the start of the tournament have been unexpected.
“But I give God the glory and I want to say a very big thank you to everyone – my club, Chippa United family, and my coaches here who always guide me.”
Nwabali said that the semi-final game has set a tone for the final on Sunday.
Nigeria play host Cote d’Ivoire, who defeated DR Congo in the second semi-final game, on Sunday at the Stade Alassane Ouattara, Abidjan.
